Extended Services

Co-ordinator for North Bath Cluster:
Keith Clover is the Extended Services Co-ordinator (ESCo) for the North Bath cluster of schools which includes, St Mark’s Secondary, Swainswick Primary, St Saviour’s Infant and Nursery, St. Saviour’s Juniors, St. Stephens Primary and Weston All Saints Primary. Keith has worked with schools for over 15 years as a consultant for Wiltshire Governor Services, an owner of nursery schools and after school and holiday clubs, and as a school governor.
The role of the ESCo is to support and co-ordinate the provision of Extended Services within the six schools in the cluster. The aim is to ensure that all schools are providing the Full Core Offer by September 2010, and following on from this to make sure that the provision is improving all the time and sustainable for the future.
Every school is unique, so Extended Services will not look the same in every school, and the aim is to share successes with each other, to signpost provision that will support children and adults, and to avoid unnecessary duplication.

What is the Full Core Offer?
The Full Core Offer covers 5 areas

  • Childcare. In response to demand and need schools should be providing access to good quality childcare, 8am to 6pm, for 48 weeks of the year.
  • A varied Menu of Activities. Schools should be aiming to provide a varied menu of activities, including study support activities. Activities may include such things as art, drama, crafts and dance. Sporting activities and recreational activities such as music, business and enterprise and visits. Study support may include catch up, extension and homework clubs.
  • Swift and Easy Referral. Schools should have procedures in place to support early identification of young people with additional needs and at risk from poor educational outcomes. This will include those with behavioural, emotional, health or other difficulties. At least one member of staff should be trained to use the Common Assessment Framework, and this should be shared with all staff members.
  • Parent Support. Information for parents and carers of children joining reception or transferring to secondary school. Signposting to parent/carers advice and support, access to parenting programmes and informal opportunities for parents to engage with the school and each other. Family learning sessions to allow children to learn with fathers, mothers and carers where there is demand shown through consultation.
  • Community Access. Where a school has facilities suitable for use by the wider community, such as local youth groups, adult learners or community groups.
