Computerised Library opens for borrowing

Borrowing books in the library will be quicker and slicker thanks to a new computer system which was launched right on schedule on 1st October.

Bonnie, a member of the after-school Book Club, was issued with the first book using the new system by librarian Pat Brocklebank. Pat and Maria Smith have been beavering away in the library for the past month, cataloguing the entire library stock on computer.

Over 150 hours of work has gone into the computerisation process. “Each book has had a barcode attached, been swiped and had a date label stuck on as well as having key words added to its entry our computer catalogue, “said Library co-ordinator Siân Macdonald. “Although it has been fun having a good look at every book, it has taken Pat and Maria absolutely hours getting through absolutely everything from picture books to poetry.”  

With the help of the school IT administrator, every pupil has been given their own barcode and books started flying off the shelves again in October.
